Large "Alligator" Smoky Quartz

This large smoky quartz crystal is so spectacular in person you just will not believe it. It is a flat, tabular, two-sided crystal, with both display faces having this impossibly geometric, stepped series of plateaus, making the crystal look more like a work of cut glass than a natural phenomenon! These smoky quartzes have the striking "alligator" look, where the quartz crystals look like the large plates in an alligator's hide. The transparency is terrific, and the luster is fine and glassy. There are faces all over the specimen, including the edges - the crystal really is complete! Nearly pristine, with only modest periphery wear on the left side and at the base. A dramatic, large cabinet, smoky quartz from a recent find in Summer of 2009 in Minas Gerais.
