Item Description

A VERY RARE and striking large two-sided combination from the Dr. Eric Asselborn Collection. Intergrown, dramatic large sharp tan calcite rhombs, to 6.4 cm, have fantastic preferential skeletal features on one side, giving the piece a surreal two-sided visual aspect. The rhombs rest on very sharp, classic, lustrous, bone-white albite variety pericline crystals, to 2.6. Essentially pristine. The calcites are pristine and the piece has trivial periphery wear. MINDAT pericline and calcite photos for France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy were reviewed to assign a proper Alpine locality. The best fit appears to be the famous Hohe Tauern area of Carinthia, Austria. Perhaps one of our Alpine collectors can furnish us more precise locality information. This is a RARE and IMPORTANT large Alpine combination. A MUST for the species or locality collector! Value? We've never seen anything like it. We feel $3000-5000 would be fair for size and unique combination quality.
