Item Description
Classic, very rich and showy large old-time chalcocite ore from the famous mines at Butte. Sharp, charcoal-gray to bronzy-brown chalcocite crystals, to 5 mm, are festooned atop the sculptural matrix of solid granular chalcocite ore matrix. Sparkly, brassy pyrite microcrystals embedded on the vuggy back of the piece are a typical and colorful accessory. Hefty copper ore at 1148 grams or 2.5 pounds mass. Ex David Burgess Collection and comes with a label from noted Colorado dealer, Lazard Cahn, dating from ca. 1908-1940. He died in 1940. valued $1000 or more
