Item Description

Lapis lazuli is a rock type, containing primarily lazurite, calcite and pyrite. It has been mined and carved as a decorative stone since ancient times. The Type Locality at Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan was imperfectly known, even in the time of the great American collector, Clarence Bement, in the late 19th century (hence its attribution to Siberia!). This very fine quality slab of rich, royal-blue lazurite with excellent, complimentary pyrite banding is from the Clarence Bement Collection and is certainly over 100 years old. He sold his collection in 1900. 32 grams.
