Item Description
Lapis lazuli is a rock type, containing primarily lazurite, calcite and pyrite. It has been mined and carved as a decorative stone since ancient times. The Type Locality at Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan was imperfectly known, even in the late 19th century! This is fine quality sculptural block of rich, royal-blue lazurite with excellent, complimentary pyrite banding. One side has been sawed and not polished. Dense and excellent carving grade lapis. 334 grams.
