Item Description

Laguna Agates are some of the most popular, sought after and eye-catching Agates in the world. Agates are defined as a variety of Chalcedony, which is a variety of cryptocrystalline Quartz. Laguna Agates have some of the most beautiful patterns with wonderful colors and excellent banding. The best of these specimens fetch big price tags in the Agate collecting community, and it's easy to see why. This particular piece has a gorgeous pattern with hues ranging from lavender to pink to yellow to reddish with various shades in between. It's slightly gemmy when backlit, and the center actually fluoresces under UV light. his specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
