Item Description
Here we have a wonderful old time Labradorite from the first known locality for the material (Labrador, Canada). It should be noted that Labradorite is actually a variety of Anorthite Feldspar (plagioclase), but some people mistakenly think it's a separate species. This gem has an "Emerald" cut with the typical smoky golden interior, but when it's rotated in the light, you can see the classic blue "sheen" flash over the stone. This effect is sometimes described as pearly or opalescent, while others may refer to it as "schiller". The blue flash is most often attributed to Moonstone, though I don't know if Labradorites are typically labeled as being Moonstone. A lovely faceted example of these now hard to find stones from this classic locality.
