While gem quality Labradorite (Feldspar) is not unheard of from Utah, gems from the Sunstone Knolls locality are often rather small. As a matter of fact, gems weighing over 2 carats are quite rare. This particular gem was faceted by the renowned gem dealer, gem cutter, field collector and Graduate Gemologist, John Rhoads of D&J Rare Gems in Salida, Colorado. John is a multiple AGTA Cutting Edge Award winner and one of the most skilled gem cutters in the United States. He actually collected the rough from which this stone was cut. This beautiful "Round Brilliant" cut gem has a soft golden-yellow hue with only VERY very slight inclusions. Virtually irreplaceable -- it is a very desirable gem for its size and the fact that it has such a wonderful pedigree.
