Kyanite (twin) (rare orange color)

Item Description

Kyanite is a species that is most often associated with blue or sometimes green colored crystals. In the late 2000s, we started seeing these unusual, intensely ORANGE colored crystals coming out of the Nani Hill locality. This locality is the source of the famous intense orange colored Spessartine Garnets, so it stands to reason that these Kyanite crystals get their color from manganese content, just like the Garnets, but I don't know if any of them have been analyzed to confirm this theory. With that said, they are some of the most distinctive and eye-catching examples of the species you'll find. What makes them even more enticing is that many of them formed in "v"-shaped twins, which is quite uncommon for Kyanite in general. Throw in the fact that they are GEMMY, despite the fact that they are uncommonly thicker than most other Kyanites, and you have something truly special. This piece is a beautiful "floater" twin with good form, and a deep fiery orange hue when backlit. The piece has some surface etching, which gives it an almost ethereal appearance but it's truly crystallized all over. A very attractive display piece of these unique Kyanites.
