Item Description

A classic example of Kyanite from Litchfield County featuring sharp, prismatic, translucent, rich blue color crystals of Kyanite in parallel growth with minor reddish-brown Staurolite on the reverse side. The piece comes with a classic old label from legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the piece has Ford's Wall Street address, the label dates between 1947-1956. The label states that the piece is from "Birkhamstead" (presumably Barkhamsted), but the style, color and formation of the crystals does not look like those from Barkhamsted, so we're just leaving it at Litchfield County. It is still a fine quality display specimen from Connecticut, and the best part is that there are actually isolated free-standing crystals, and not just a muddled group like so many from this locality. The largest crystal measures 5.3 cm long.
