Item Description
Some of the finest examples of Kutnohorite ever found are those from the famous Wessels Mine in South Africa. This hefty cabinet sized piece features a full coverage of beautiful rich pink crystals of Kutnohorite with a pleasing sub-vitreous / resinous luster, sitting atop a mass of manganese-bearing matrix. The crystals vary in habit from thinner prismatic forms, to more spherical / globular groups and even some blades crystals here and there. No major damage, outside of the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall, and that color is quite alluring. Although Kutnohorite is closely related to Rhodochrosite in terms of chemistry, it's actually part of the Dolomite Group, where Rhodochrosite is a member of the Calcite group, and actually forms a series with both Calcite and Siderite.
