Kutnohorite

Item Description

Some of the finest examples of crystallized Kutnohorite are those from South Africa. This beautiful mineral species is a calcium manganese carbonate (think of it as being in between Calcite and Rhodochrosite chemically), and often has a very attractive pink hue. This piece a gorgeous crystallized "spray" comprising dozens of thin, prismatic pink crystals, which range into a softer tan-pink color at the tips. A bit of black metallic Hausmannite makes for a great accent from the front/display side, and when you turn the piece around, you can see it has a form resembling that of a "horn of plenty". No major damage that I can see. There aren't many like this one available these days, as it was mined a couple decades ago. Retail value on this one is $1,750.
