Item Description

Kurnakovite is a very rare hydrated borate and this is a very well-formed, translucent, waxy luster thumbnail crystal from this classic locality. These crystals were only found for a short period when the open pit mine at Boron was first opened in 1957. At one time they were abundant but none have been found in years. Few were saved as they came out, and specimens of this quality are hard to obtain today. Ex Al Ordway Collection.
