Item Description
Some of the finest crystallized examples of Kunzite (the pink variety of Spodumene) are those from Afghanistan. While most people are familiar with Kunzite, it's important to keep in mind that there are only three places in the world that have produced fine specimens with any consistency (Afghanistan, Brazil and San Diego County, California). This showy and aesthetic cabinet display specimen features a wonderful GEM quality, prismatic Kunzite crystal measuring 5.2 cm long aesthetically flaring off a matrix of additional Spodumene / Kunzite crystals and is associated with a fine quality Quartz crystal aesthetically flaring off the side. The piece is crystallized all over, and it's nearly a complete "floater", as it's completely recrystallized on the bottom / base where it must have detached from the pocket wall. It is quite rare and unusual to find Kunzite ON Kunzite like this, and I believe that the lower Spodumene crystal was interrupted during its initial growth / formation, and later resumed crystallization with the single GEM crystal flaring off the top. I love how the top-most Kunzite has that classic "Roman sword" shape, and it's highlighted by beautiful elongated prismatic striations that run the length of the crystals. You rarely see such well terminated Kunzite crystals from any locality, let alone crystals that are gemmy and on MATRIX like this. The form, size and gemminess make it a great gem crystal display specimen from this most prolific gem minerals producing region. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock, and valued at $4,500 in our inventory.
