Kunzite - superb gem DT, ex Campbell

Here is a complete, doubly terminated, floater crystal of gem pink Kunzite from recent finds at Mawi, Afghanistan. The crystal is essentially gem at its interior with only a few elongate veiled inclusions and one longitudinal internal fracture trace that is barely perceptible. The broad prism faces of the crystal display an almost silky luster imparted by the prominent striations parallel to their length. Ends of this crystal exhibit lustrous, complex, jagged terminations, and looking down each end (the c-axis) the gorgeous, saturated, lilac-pink color is very apparent. The Kunzite crystal is complete, doubly terminated and pristine with great character and a mass of 98.6 grams. It also comes with a custom engraved lucite base. It shows off dramatically, with a good volume-filling shape. It is so much more vividly pink, sparkly, and gemmy than most of these, it is hard to convey by photos. Many Afghani kunzites have a sort of murky look inside, but this is "happy and bright" internally. A superb old classic from the extensive gem crystals suite of our friend and staff mineralogist, Dr. Tom Campbell, who specializes in gem species and gem crystals. This is a stunning display piece in person, carefully chosen from a large pocket that came out years ago and hoarded away. Valued $3500-4500.
