Item Description

A rare, gem, rich lilac-pink doubly terminated kunzite crystal from the historic and imporant old mine that is much less well-known (today), the San Pedro Mine on Hiriart Mt., San Diego County, California. The GEM typically striated crystal has very high waxy lustre. The pink color is much more vivid looking down the C-axis. The different terminations are pristine. Two prism faces appear to be old in-pocket cleavages, which is acceptable for spodumene specimens. The pegmatite first produced in 1902 and is known for spodumene (mostly kunzite), beryl and yellow quartz. Probably mined in the 1970s or 80s, when Pala International acquired the pegmatite and explored old workings.
