Kunzite (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

Item Description

An attractive crystal of beautiful pink Spodumene Kunzite from this classic locality in Afghanistan. The piece is complete all the way around with a gorgeous tapered termination. The piece is quite gemmy, and like most Spodumenes, it shows a stronger hue when viewed down the "c" axis with good backlighting. Elegant, smooth striations can be seen on all the of the prism faces while the steep pyramidal faces running down from the termination have a smooth gentle luster. Everybody is familiar with Kunzite, but there truly are only a few places on earth where good crystals are found in any quantity, and some of the best crystals to hit the market in the last 35+ years are those from Afghanistan. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
