Some of the most impressive and finest quality crystals of Kunzite (the pink / purple variety of Spodumene) have come from Afghanistan in the last few decades. This full minaiture sized piece is a fine quality, sharp, doubly-terminated, GEM QUALITY crystal wityout matrix, but it's the fact that the piece is TWINNED that makes all the difference. You can clearly see the symmetry plan running down the front of the crystal, giving the piece such an elegant overall form. The top termination shows distinct beautiful crystallized striations and etching patterns, while the other end was at one time broken during formation and subsequently recrystallized ("re-healed"). The piece is essentially a complete "floater" as it's crystallized all the way around with no broken point of attachment. Like most Kunzite crystals, it shows a pale purplish-pink hue when viewed on the "a" axis, and more of a pastel yellowish tone on the "b" axis, but when viewed down the "c" axis, the color intensifies a bit more as Spodumene crystals are notably pleochroic. The prism faces are VERY smooth and lustrous, which is a nice dichotomy to the etched / striated faces on the terminations. Fine crystallized Kunzites are only found in a few places on earth, and Afghanistan is only place that produces them with any frequency these days. We had this one priced at $1,000 in the inventory.
