Item Description

These are some of the best contemporary Kunzites from any world locality, and they happen to come from the same area where Kunzite was first discovered. The original pink Spodumenes from San Diego County were named Kunzite in 1903 after the world famous mineralogist / gemologist, George F. Kunz, and specimens are still coming out today. Here we have a large, sculptural, GEM quality, lustrous, gorgeous, classic, pinkish-purple colored Kunzite crystal from a discovery in the early 2000s at the Oceanview Mine. The crystal is beautifully striated, and shows a gorgeous intense saturated color when viewed down the "c" axis. There is some surface etching, which is seen in virtually every crystal from the locality, along with a bit of included golden-brown iron oxide, but it's still very showy and fine quality. Weighs 59.43 grams. Priced at $3,500 in the inventory. The piece comes with a FREE custom acrylic base for easy display. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman.  Dave is now retired from mining, but was formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s, and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.   See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
