Some of the most impressive and finest quality crystals of Kunzite (the pink / purple variety of Spodumene) have come from Afghanistan in the last few decades. This cabinet sized piece is a large, thick, doubly-terminated, gemmy crystal with no matrix. The top termination shows distinct beautiful crystallized striations and etching patterns, while the other end was at one time broken during formation and subsequently recrystallized ("re-healed"). The piece is essentially a complete "floater" as it's crystallized all the way around with no broken point of attachment. Because it's a thick crystal, the color is more saturated showing a beautiful purple pink when viewed on the "a" axis, but when viewed down the "c" axis, one can clearly the color intensifies, as Spodumene crystals are notably pleochroic. The prism faces are smooth and lustrous with wonderful striations. Fine crystallized Kunzites are only found in a few places on earth, and Afghanistan is only place that produces them with any frequency these days. Weight is 529 grams.
