Kunzite

This well formed, lustrous and translucent, light pink kunzite specimen is composed of two, slender, parallel growth crystals. The larger of the two crystals exceeds 6 inches. It is a really respectable, large, sharp specimen from this remote province of Afghanistan, long famous for kunzites and tourmalines both. Ironically Kunzite was first found and named in the late 1800s from deposits in San Diego, but the biggest come from Afghanistan today. A superb, sharp specimen that stands dramatically, and holds its own standing next to fancier gem species... for some reason kunzite is under-rated compared to tourmaline and I never understand why. Good specimens are actually MUCH more rare and come from fewer locations! 172 grams. Big surface volume display area for the weight/size ration, I would say.
