Kunzite (145.82 grams) (ex David Burgess Collection)

A wonderfully thick and gemmy Kunzite from Afghanistan. The piece is almost a floater as it's actually doubly-terminated (it's recrystallized on the bottom), but it's not 100% complete on the back. With that said, the form is not typical in my experience, as most crystals are rather slender. You rarely see such well terminated Kunzite crystals from any locality, and some of the best examples are found in Afghanistan. I must stress that the crystal is VERY gemmy and with the two-dimensional limitations of photography, it was not the easiest specimen to shoot. The crystal is actually bi-colored (pink and light greenish-yellow) when viewed on the "a" axis, but When viewed down the "c" axis, one can see a glowing purplish-pink hue! The form, size and gemmines make it a very nice gem crystal from this most prolific gem producing region. Good crystallized Kunzites are only found in a few places on earth. Specimen weight is 145.82 grams (729 carats). Valued at $1,400. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
