Item Description

Kulanite is a rare barium iron manganese magnesium aluminum iron phosphate that was first discovered at Crosscut Creek in the Yukon Territory of Canada. The species was named after Alan Kulan, who found the first pieces of the mineral. This specimen is labeled as coming from the Blow River, and features one of the largest individual crystals of Kulanite that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. This miniature specimens hosts sharp, lustrous, well-formed, blocky dark green (best seen with backlighting) colored crsytals crystals of Kulanite measuring up to an impressive 1.6 cm, associated with minor brown Siderite on a thin slab of matrix. There is an obvious ding on the main Kulanite crystal, so it's not 100% pristine, but it doesn't take away from the impressive size, and you can't see the damage from the front/display side of the piece. A very good example of this rare and desirable species.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
