Kulanite

This rare phosphate is only found in a handful of worldwide localities. This piece is from the type locality, where the best examples of the species are found. Kulanite is named after Alan Kulan, the legendary mining figure who is best known locally for his 1953 discovery of the Vangorda base-metal deposit in Canada, which led to a major role in finding the enormous Faro lead-zinc-silver deposit. During the 1970s, the Faro mine was heralded as Canada's top lead producer and as the biggest post-Klondike event to put the Yukon on the world map. This piece hosts beautiful dark green monoclinic crystals of Kulanite on matrix. Hard to find, and certainly worth picking up if you collect rare species.
