Item Description
This huge and famous open pit copper mine is the Type Locality for krohnkite, a rare Cu-sulfate. This very fine old two-sided piece is composed of sharp krohnkite crystals with a bit of brochantite. Comes with a Mark Bandy label, he was THE prominent American mining engineer and mineral collector of the time and place, and built the most important collection of South American minerals as well (much of it now in the LA County Museum). He spent much time in South America working. The label probably dates to the 1930s. A fine provenance with this excellent piece, valued $1000-1250 for sharpness of the crystals and display quality. Note, you should not get these wet, but they are otherwise stable over long periods.
