Item Description

Kleinite is a very rare hydrated mercury chloro sulfate species that of the time of this posting, has that is only found in four places in the world. It was named in 1905 in honor of the Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Berlin, Johann Friedrich Carl Klein. The type locality is in the Terlingua District of Texas in the early 1900s, but the most famous specimens are those from more recent mining at the McDermitt Mine in Nevada. In the early 1990s, there was a pretty impressive discovery of this material, which really bolstered the supply on the market. This piece is a good thumbnail sized specimen of this incredibly rare and beautiful material featuring orange-yellow colored crystal groups of Kleinite on host rock matrix. If you've ever wanted a piece of this classic material, this is a great opportunity to pick up a nice specimen for your collection. The crystals are best seen under magnification, like most pieces of Kleinite.
