Item Description

The well-known Foote Mine is a lithia-bearing pegmatite and is famous for a variety of rare phosphates and silicates. Kingsmountite is a very rare phosphate and this mine is the Type Locality. Birnessite is an uncommon manganese hydroxide. One edge of the matrix hosts micro sprays of white kingsmountite crystals and lustrous black birnessite is scattered about. Birnessite is very uncommon from the Foote Mine and this is an excellent combination thumbnail from the Will Henderson Collection, obtained through Jim Fowler.
