Item Description

A great piece of the very hard to find Kidwellite specimens from the Three Oaks Gap (possibly spelled Three Oak Gap according to anyplaceamerica.com - https://www.anyplaceamerica.co...) locality in Arkansas. The species was named after Albert Lewis Kidwell, a mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. This piece features beautiful olive green, velvety, radiating "balls" and almost "stalactite"-shaped groups of Kidwellite which play host to beautiful "star"-like groups of pale lilac to purplish colored Strengite sitting on a dark reddish-brown mineral on Novaculite matrix. Originally, the brown phosphate species from this locality was always labeled as Beraunite, but it turns out that nobody can find a confirmed piece of Beraunite from Three Oaks Gap, so the species is most likely either Eleonorite, Dufrenite or maybe Goethite according to what I can find in the literature. A wonderful and fine quality example of this wonderful old material that was mined in 1980s. A must have for any fan of worldwide phosphates ore minerals from Arkansas.
