Item Description
A variety of colorful iron phosphates are present on this miniature from Indian Mountain, Alabama, one of the world's great but sadly unappreciated phosphate mineral localities. The center of the piece features medium to dark olive green, densely aggregated, small (1 to 2 mm), mounded botryoids of Kidwellite that are pretty much surrounded by complementary colored, bright, red-brown, mostly two-dimensional sprays of Beraunite to 4 mm. Tiny, dark green patches of Dufrenite are also present locally along with partial, tiny sprays of golden brown Cacoxenite. This has excellent coverage of Kidwellite and is an attractive miniature exemple for the species. An old specimen obtained by self-collecting it here only shortly after the species was named from his finds of Arkansas material, by our old Texas colleague and friend, Al Kidwell: one of the great field collectors and mineralogists of mid-1900s Texas (1919-2008), after whom the mineral Kidwellite is named. Comes with Al's label.
