Item Description
Kidwellite is a rare Fe-phosphate and this showy large combination specimen is from the well-known extinct Coon Creek manganese mine in Polk County. Matte mint-green kidwellite botryoids attractively fill an elongated sculptural vug in novaculite matrix. Interesting black goethite botryoidal worm-like stringers and crusts are intermixed and flank the kidwellites. The truncated hemispheres on the edge reveal the radial growth of the acicular phosphate minerals. Brown Rockbridgeite grades upward to the green Kidwellite. Ex Henry de Linde Collection (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987. An excellent and rare large Arkansas combination phosphate with goethite and a fine provenance.
