Item Description
This is a wonderful rarity, as is any piece of the copper zinc cadmium arsenate, Keyite named for the famous mineral dealer, Charlie Key. The piece is has blue/teal microc crystalline areas of Keyite associated with minor Cuprian Adamite on Chalcocite matrix. Keyite, as you can imagine, is quite rare, and only known to occur here at the Type Locality and one other locality in Greece. I have seen only a handful in my life, and Charlie Key tells me there just aren't more than a handful he knows of that came out. Keyite under a scope is gorgeous, and the mineral is interesting. Pieces are few and far between and this piece is from the type locality! The piece comes with a label from well known California dealer and collector, Al McGuinness, the namesake for the magnesium copper carbonate, McGuinessite (see http://minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=789 for more info) along with labels from Paolo Matioli and Tom Loomis of Dakota Matrix.
