Item Description

Pezinok is an historic antimony locality in Slovakia, which has produced some of the most well-known and classic Kermesite specimens ever found. The species is named for word "kermes", originally from the Persian word "qurmizq", meaning crimson, as these crystals exhibit an intense red/crimson color under strong lighting. Even though the crystals may look metallic in reflected light, this is one of the few sulfides that actually shows color when backlit! This specimen hosts beautiful and fine quality crystallized "sprays" comprising quality, thin, prismatic, sharp, lustrous, metallic/gemmy "needles" measuring up to 2.1.5 cm long on matrix. It is one of the better specimens of this well known material that I have offered in the auctions recently. Fine quality, rare and from a classic locality.
Valued $1,500.
From the collection of Colin Manlove.
