Item Description
A classic display piece of these iconic Adularia specimens from the Swiss Alps. Adularia is defined on mindat.org as, "A more ordered low-temperature variety of Orthoclase or partially disordered Microcline. Individual localities should be verified because the adularia structural state is nearly equally represented by microcline and orthoclase specimens. Generally found in alpine-type parageneses". This piece is filled with sharp, well-formed, very lustrous (almost glassy on certain faces), white/colorless crystals of Adularia measuring up to 2.0 cm, which are partially coated by soft grey-green Clinochlore ("Chlorite"). Most of the crystals are in good shape, though there are a few rough spots. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. The piece was previously in the collection of Harvard University. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
