Item Description

A fine quality and frankly, rarely seen Adularia specimen from the high mountains of Pakistan. These pieces compare quite favorably to the classic and highly desirable specimens from the Swiss Alps. Adularia is defined on mindat.org as a, "more ordered low-temperature variety of Orthoclase or partially disordered Microcline". The crystals are almost always more angular and compressed than higher temperature Feldspar (specifically K-Feldspar in this case). This piece features several sharp, well-formed, white, tapered blocky twinned crystals of this variety of K-Feldspar, which have a soft mossy green hue in areas due to Clinochlore ("Chlorite") inclusions, but the original white color of the Adularia crystals is still the predominant hue. The back of the piece has some matted silvery-white groups of what could be Chrysotile or Palygorskite. No major damage that I can see, but a few tiny nicks can be seen here and there. The crystals have very good luster for the material, they can often be dull, but these have a distinct vitreous quality on the surface. If you're a fan of Feldspars, Alpine ("Alpine-type") minerals, or just interesting crystal morphology, do not miss out on this attractive specimen from this Pakistani locale. This particular piece dates back to the early 2000s.
