Jarosite (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

PLEASE NOTE: This piece came labeled as coming from the Richmond Sitting Bull Mine in Deadwood, South Dakota, but Jarosite is not reported from this locality. If anybody out there has some insight as to the origin or identity of this specimen, please let us know. Tiny, sharp, well-formed reddish-brown colored crystals sit on a layer of host rock matrix. We photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9132). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
