Japan-law twin Quartz on Quartz (RARE from China)

SUPERB and VERY RARE Japan law-twin quartz from this now famous remote Chinese deposit. Striking limpid transparency is enhanced by the impressive stepped-growth of the lustrous prism faces and sharp terminations and edges of the hexagonal tabular twin. The beautiful, absolutely pristine, 7.8 cm across, well-balanced twin is elegantly set on a jackstraw cluster of quartz crystals supporting it (few supporting crystals in the middle under the twin are broken but are certainly acceptable in the context of this exceptional piece). Amazingly it is NOT repaired! We know, as we trimmed it down from a large volleyball-sized specimen. See the 2012 Mineralogical Record China-IV Special Issure, Vol. 43, No. 5. Huanggang is well-known for quartz including the outstanding Quartz "prases" included with green amphiboles or hedenbergite and dipyramidal Quartz specimens, but this unique twin compares favorably with those from world-class locales in Japan, Brazil, Peru, USA and other countries. Valued highly - when do you see elegant, intact, unrepaired Japan Law twins perched up like this? If from Arkansas, it would be a premium at five figures - easily. If from Brazil where they are more common, it might still be near half of that for the clarity and condition but they are more common overall there. From China, probably somewhere in the middle values, but still quite rare!
