Item Description
Jackson's Crossroads Amethyst Mine is world famous for the BEST purple amethyst in America, and the best specimens from here are competitive with any worldwide location as well. The team that mines this hard rock location uses all kinds of fun heavy equipment to dig out pockets, and harvest them carefully for these purple jewels. It is hard work, impossible without heavy equipment. They will prepare a zone that looks to be rich in quartz seams and hopefully pockets by the use of heavy backhoes, and then collectors can go in and take a look. Most people walk out with something nice, and occasionally you can be part of opening a pocket of real value (specimens from this mine have sold for well in excess of $500,000 in the past years, with fine hand sized pieces easily fetching 5 figures). Several of us on the team here at Arkenstone have been to dig, and I can tell you it is exhilarating and thrilling to see the first flash of purple. This is a surface pit dig, easy to access and within a short drive of Atlanta and all the richness of food and hotels in the Atlanta area, where you would drive out from. This is a special donation to support the Mineralogical Record, and the Auction winner will get to keep $2500 worth of crystals courtesy of mine owner/partners Paul Geffner, Rick Kennedy, and friends! Anything else you find can be purchased at a fair discount from the retail value they can get for it themselves (as this is a commercial mine for specimens). Tools will be provided by the owners but you should bring gloves, work boots or strong shoes, and a hat. NOTE: trip scheduling is subject to mutual agreement and availability from now until August 15, 2023.
The specimens pictured here are from the mining locality, but the items are not included in this auction item.
