Iridescent Turgite on Hematite (F. Crayton Coll.)

A fantastically colorful and sculptural large combination from this old Virginia iron mining district from where specimens are seldom available. Iridescent psychedelic turgite, a mixture of goethite and hematite partially coats the base of a dramatic parallel-growth cluster of hematite stalactites. Broken stalactites are noticed on the "front porch" and the stalactite tips are contacted. This remains a surreal, artistic and uncommon large 360-degree combination from the F. Crayton collection. Valued at $495 by the former dealer. Quite unique, and large, and important for the locale - so this seems a fairly low value to us.
