Iridescent Specular Hematite (old classic style)

A classic of old finds from Brazil, these naturally iridescent specimens are composed of fine-grained, specular hematite, oriented in bedding planes as they formed. When we were kids, they used to be common show material in the 1980s, but try finding a good one now! They are not ever visibly crystallized, although perhaps one could argue they are micro-crystallized at some level. They still remain a unique form of hematite, recognizably old Brazilian material, and for color alone have a pride of place in many collections. This is a relatively large one by today's standards.
