Item Description
Sparkly, dramatically iridescent, multi-hued so-called "rainbow" hematite on this stunning small cabinet lathe from a large open pit iron mine in Minas Gerais, where banded hematite is the primary ore. The beautiful iridescence is caused by an unnamed micro-scale phosphate mineral. Plenty of beautiful blue, green, pink, yellow and golden tones can be seen when the piece is rotated in the light. Most of the material came out in a single large container load in 1987.
