Iridescent Hematite (fine classic) ex Albanese and Hauck

Gorgeous iridescent hues of neon-green and magenta command attention, when this sculptural small cabinet cluster of brilliant metallic hematite plates is rotated. The striking, dominating upright crystal is 3.0 cm across and the bit of bruising is certainly only a modest detraction. The impressive isolated secondary crystal is 2.4 cm across. This excellent and very showy piece is from the ancient and now extinct iron mines on Elba Island. Etruscans and then Romans mined iron here. Modern mining started in the late 19th century. Comes with a John Albanese label, a prominent New Jersey dealer in the 1940s to late 1960s. He passed away in 1969. His label dates from 1953-1968.
