Iridescent hematite plates cover both sides of this impressive, large, sculptural, 3-dimensional specimen of solid hematite from the historic iron mines of Elba Island. The blades are up to 2.7 cm wide. The front has very few bruised blades, exceptional for such a densely crystallized specimen. The bit of noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this impressive large specimen. 835 grams or 1.8 pounds mass. From the broad and important collections of Dick Hauck, founder and owner of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in New Jersey. Elba Island hematite and pyrite specimens are world-wide classics and have been known for centuries. This is a classic and very fine large hematite example from the famed locale, circa late 1800s or early 1900s style.
