RARE, impressive and rich large MATRIX chalcocite from the Flambeau Mine. Most all of the excellent to superb specimens, noted for outstanding iridescence, from the famous mid-1990s finds were floaters or had attachments on the back. A sculptural dense nest of intergrown euhedral to subhedral hexagonal chalcocite plates with subtle blue to magenta to gray iridescence aesthetically courses across the top of the large layered matrix of granular chalcocite with quartz and micro pyrites. The very rich copper mine only produced from 1998 to 1997 and is totally reclaimed. An oustanding, rare and rich large matrix chalcocite from this noted locale. Value? We have not seen another matrix specimen of this size and quality in years so perhaps valued $1250-1500 is fair. hard to convey from photos - this is better in person!.
