Iolite (RARE Canadian locality)

Item Description

This is the only faceted stone we've ever seen from this locality. It's a remarkable gem quality Iolite (the blue-purple variety of Cordierite) from the Manitouwadge area, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. This tapered baguette cut gem is virtually eye-clean with a beautiful purplish-blue color. It's not a large stone, but the locality is really what matters here. The gem comes with an old label from the Mineralogical Record auction, and was donated by Don Olson.
