Item Description

SUPERB cluster of Inyoite crystals. Inyoite is a rare, hydrated borate found in evaporite deposits, in this case the Monte Azul deposit in a high altitude, arid valley of Argentina. The aesthetics of these stepped, pseudo-rhombic crystals, set in almost an en echelon series, is outstanding. The crystals are sharp and gemmy, with the largest reaching an impressive 3 cm on edge. Adding to the aesthetics is the fine white coating, which actually imparts an almost blue-white opalescence under good light that reminds one of Moonstone. Some, though not many of them, of the finest Inyoites in the world have come from here, which is easy to believe seeing this quality. It was in the late 1990s, and few turn up today. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
