Inyoite altering to Meyerhofferite (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

Inyoite is a fairly rare borate species, and some of the best examples are found in California. The Monte Blanco locality in Inyo County, California is actually the type locality for the Inyoite, which is where this piece was found. You can see the piece is loaded with notably sharp, well-formed, somewhat block / thick tabular crystals of Inyoite which are altering to chalky white Meyerhofferite measuring up to 2.8 cm on edge sitting atop minor matrix. It's one of the better examples of this material that I've had to offer, and it displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. This material is seldom seen on the market, and if you collect borate species or minerals from California, do not pass up the chance to get your hands on a showy and good quality display specimen of this rare material. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
