Item Description

Good blue tourmaline is the rarest sort from Afghanistan pegmatites. This is a dramatic, large, very beautiful and outstanding combination example of bi-colored indicolite from Afghanistan. The highly lustrous, well-striated crystal has a 1.2 cm, gemmy, gorgeous, intense teal-blue gem above the opaque, super-dark purple/black body. The 1 mm zone below the termination is a rich purple. The lustrous termination is surreal! The intense stepped-growth patterns look like a M.C. Escher print and there are three interior clefts, the largest filled with cleavelandite blades. The tourmaline has an impressive and aesthetic collar of snow-white cleavelandite blades accented with light lavender lepidolite books. The indicolite measures a large, 7.6 (length) x 6.3 x 6.2 cm. Complete-all-around, the indicolite is essentially pristine, with only a very trivial bit of termination edge wear. This is a superb large example of the combination species and locale with a pretty, gemmy indicolite zone. Valued at $3500. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. Very little has come out recently, with the ongoing conflict.
