Item Description

A gorgeous and showy display specimen of old-time Barra do Salinas material featuring several beautiful blue Indicolite Tourmaline crystals partially frozen in and flaring out of a gemmy, colorless Quartz crystal shard. The main Tourmaline crystal on the specimen measures 3.3 cm long and is incredibly gemmy with that glowing cool greenish-blue hue. The termination features attractive pyramidal faces, while some of the smaller Tourmalines on the specimen show flat basal terminations. The majority of the secondary Tourmaline crystals in fact are actually fully terminated and not broken, which is not common in this particular type of material. Additionally, there are several Tourmaline crystals which are completely frozen inside of the Quartz, which is best seen with some backlighting. It is important to note that upon close inspection, the main Tourmaline crystal has been repaired, which is common for these kind of specimens, but I can see a small spot of glue where the crystal meets the Quartz. With that said, it's still a highly aesthetic and eye-catching cabinet sized piece dating back several decades. It's important to note that years ago, it was rare to find Tourmaline crystals on matrix, most of them were loose singles. It was only until recent years that technology and determination has allowed dealers and mineral restoration professionals to reconstruct entire specimens of Tourmaline on matrix, but they rarely were found at the time this piece came out. A wonderful example of these classic specimens from Brazil. Valued at $1500. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
