A deep blue indicolite crystal with vibrant "skin" of translucent blue tourmaline over a darker core, typical of this very old style. This is a large, robust piece, complete all around although with very minor edge wear. It has not been cleaned by chemicals and should improve in the lab. Although dark to backlighting, it is actually really colorful when you front-light it , due to the thin transparent skin layer of gemmy blue tourmaline on top. The termination has fabulous glassy luster and so do the sides. With a little investment to clean up, it will dramatically improve, we think. Mass 379 grams (about 1 pound), and quite impressive for the size - and probably for the price. Valued $2500-5000.
