Indicolite Tourmaline

We have all seen blue tourmalines, although most are more of a steel blue grey than a true blue blue color....a true, vibrant indicolite crystal (i.e. blue tourmaline in the gem industry) is rare indeed! But, here we have a rich, deep blue Indicolite Tourmaline crystal from a small and obscure gem pegmatite in Rio Grande do Norte state in Brazil, out of a multigenerational family collection down there. First off, it has a neon blue color! It has a nice structure as well, and displays highly striated and reflective prism faces and a rough, complex termination with numerous, reflective, multiple terminations. Actually it is reminiscent of the wonderful surface texture of the Ukraine heliodors but a neon blue color. Although it has some slight chatter (tiny bits of natural wear) on the edges, the lovely Indicolite blue color is so vibrant that is all the eye sees, especially when backlit even a little. This crystal glows blue even in only room/ambient lighting! Ex. Rolando and Bruno Gioia, from their multigenerational family collection (both were contributors to the definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil"). This single gem crystal masses 47 grams. As for value, we only saw a single pocket with a few crystals. There is simply nothing like them on the open market.
